Signature “Beyond Balance” Reiki Treatment

A non-invasive, gentle yet powerful Japanese form of energy therapy, Reiki can help balance the body, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually by putting you in touch with your own individual energy field. Pronounced ray -key which translates to “Universal Energy”, this ancient art form can lead the body to do what it does best – heals itself. As opposed to hands on massage work in which the therapist kneads and rubs an uncovered body part, Reiki can be performed fully clothed and without ever physically touching the body. A Reiki healing practitioner uses their hands and powerful, ancient symbols to balance your energy system as a whole by channelling subtle energies from around your body into the seven energy centres known as Chakras. A deep interpersonal connection sometimes comes with Reiki as the practitioner supports and coaches the receiver using specific breathing patterns and words of encouragement. Experiences vary greatly from person to person but most find Reiki treatments to be extremely relaxing and effortlessly meditative. Reiki can be used to address many physical and emotional disorders from headaches and insomnia to depression. All “Beyond Bodycare” therapists are trained to the highest (Master/Teacher) level by a skilled and experienced teacher to insure an enlightening experience.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is the modality that comes to mind when most people think about massage. As the best-known type of bodywork performed today, one of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished using long, gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart, but Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension. This classic therapeutic full-body Swedish massage will soothe muscular tension using firm pressure and traditional techniques of effleurage and petrissage, your massage therapist will enhance circulation and improve overall skin tone to promote a feeling of deep relaxation.

Therapeutic Deep Tissue

Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints). Directed toward specific areas of tension and imbalance of the muscular structure, deep tissue, also known as sports massage, uses a variety of firm, direct massage techniques to loosen muscles and joints, which will increase range of motion as well as circulation. An excellent choice for athletes of all levels.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage therapy melts away tension, eases muscle stiffness and increases circulation and metabolism. Each 1 ½ -hour hot stone massage therapy session promotes deeper muscle relaxation through the placement of smooth, water-heated stones at key points on the body. Our professional massage therapists also incorporate a customized massage, with the use of hot stones which offers enhanced benefits. The premise behind hot stone massage therapy is that the direct heat of the stones relaxes muscles, allowing the therapist access to their deeper muscle layers. Combining hot stone protocols with a full body massage provides a very healing and effective experience. The hot stones also expand blood vessels, which encourages blood flow throughout the body. The hot stones have a sedative effect that can relieve chronic pain, reduce stress and promote deep relaxation.

Prenatal Massage

Designed to address and relieve specific aches and pains that most pregnant women face, like hip and low back pain, swollen ankles etc…. Prenatal Massage borrows most of its strokes and feel from that of traditional Swedish Massage though some specific deeper work is often beneficial. There are some subtle differences designed to make both mother and child comfortable. The most noticeable difference is that Prenatal massage often takes place in a well supported side lying position. Pillows are placed between the knees and under the head and arms. This position allows for the most effective use of strokes to alleviate the trouble spots that come with carrying a developing child. Prenatal massage is NOT recommended for the first trimester of pregnancy, though once into the second and third trimester it can be very beneficial.
